You're probably right! I should probably just think of a good initial discussion topic and announce something...

It sounds like an interesting idea. You'll probably find you'll need to start making plans before many will commit or speak up (even if you don't get a lot of responses here, don't assume no interest, "if you build it, they will come", etc :)). Once you have a provisional date or agenda, just make sure you get the details in front of as many people as possible, probably via the usual forums.

Actually, even if you build it, they might not come, but that might be the quickest way to find out for sure!

Perhaps "conference" was the wrong word as it conveys something much bigger than what I meant. I cannot think of a better one though ;-)

I agree totally about the need to define a topic well for a cast.

At this stage I'm just gauging the interest level in something like this - if there's none then I'll leave it, otherwise I'll think about step 2...

Thanks for the comment.

I am not too hang up on Skype myself but in general it sounds nice.

Though if you are serious about this you'll need to do more organizing than that. You'll need to define an agenda so that peoples will know what they are in for, because as much as it sounds interesting, what the hell will people be talking about in this conference?

So far it seems that the few forums, blogs and occassional meetup (in the UK) were fairly sufficient for the (small) community needs.
